The sub-committee formed by the Steering Committee of the Sindh Education Department has proposed that the annual matriculation and intermediate examinations across Sindh should be conducted in July 2021 with a delay of two months.
The Secretary of School Education, Ahmed Bakhsh Narejo, chaired a meeting of the sub-committee at the Scouts Headquarters, Karachi, in which the academic calendar for the current academic session 2021 and the next academic session 2022 were finalized.
The two academic calendars will be presented for approval at the meeting of the Steering Committee scheduled for 30 January.
Earlier, it had been decided that the matric examinations would be conducted after Eid-ul-Fitr in May 2021 and intermediate examinations from June 2021. However, now the committee has decided to give students more time to study and take their examinations in July 2021.
The sub-committee has also decided to give only one month of summer vacations in July to students from Grades 1 to 8 of all the private and public schools across the province.
A recommendation was made for limiting the duration of the examinations to a maximum of two hours and for abolishing practical examinations.
The sub-committee also suggested that the marks for the practical examinations be split in two, with 50 percent allotted for the theory paper and the other half for the Constructed Response Questions.
